Ages:
Beginning Cello- 7 and up
Composition (any level)- 10 and up*
*** Please be aware that for beginning students of cello and composition that a more mature and developed sense of fine motor skills is required. A background in piano is STRONGLY ENCOURAGED before starting on any instrument to ensure the students’ ability to read music and understand fundamental music concepts.
I don’t ever like to place an upper limit on the age to start learning a new instrument— it should be a life-long pursuit, and anyone can start learning if they have the time, mindset, and passion.
Pedagogy and Approach
My students are encouraged to explore their own creativity while maintaining a structured discipline. I think it is essential to fostering growth and musicianship to explore improvisation, spontaneity, and exuberance. I make it a point in individual lessons to focus on what the students want to learn, and doing so within lessons filled with music theory, rhythm development and general musicianship. I approach lessons on an individual basis, and adapt the techniques to fit the needs of each unique learner. Everyone learns differently, and I truly believe that as an educator and instructor, my job is to help each one of my students learn to the best of their ability, reach their natural potential in a relaxed environment, and learn to love making music.
